Context

The identity of unquoted books, a boutique imprint, and its 37th publication, the bridge. The book explores the visual language of Korean Shamanism, focusing on its role as a ritualistic medium between the mundane and the spiritual.

Process

The physical structure—inverted and connected in halves—symbolizes the seamless transition between two worlds. Fluorescent highlights are applied throughout the layout as a metaphor for shamanic energy, acting as a visual thread that connects disparate realms and evokes an ethereal resonance.

Outcome

An archival book featuring a dualistic materiality: black paper with monochromatic imagery and white paper with vivid colors. The project extends into a promotional landing page and a curated event space, redefining traditional heritage as a contemporary sensory experience.

Book Design Decisions

Focused on incorporating elements of Korean Shamanism, using the concept of bridging the worlds of the dead and the living to shape the book’s structure.

I created a landing page to promote a book using p5.js. As the user scrolls down, the full page transitions into the book cover. When you click on the cover, it reveals the back cover. Additionally, when you hover the mouse over the page, a highlight moves to allow you to read the text underneath it.
